Today, Los Angeles County remains one of the nation’s largest counties. In land area, encompassing about 4,081 square miles, and area about 800 square miles larger than the combined area of Delaware and Rhode Island.
Los Angeles is very diverse, with people from over 140 countries and the largest Latin-American and Asian-American populations of any U.S. city. It is the distribution hub of the west coast and a gate- way to Asia.

One of the most outstanding features of the five-county Los Angeles Area is the sheer size of its economy. The regions greatest concentra- tion of employment is in education and health services, which is followed by professional and business services and then by gov- ernment.
